The 7th Division (第七師団, Dainanashidan) is a platoon that is led by First Lieutenant Tsurumi and is one of the opposing forces in the series. They are also known as the Hokuchin Unit (北鎮部隊, Hokuchin Butai) and the Defenders of Northern Japan and the Strongest Unit. Most of the soldiers of the 7th Division that have appeared in the series belong to the 27th Infantry Regiment. Their headquarter is based in Asahikawa.

The 27th Infantry Regiment of the 7th Division was the same group that series creator Satoru Noda's great-grandfather, who was also named Saichi Sugimoto, served in during the Russo-Japanese War.[1]
