The Sound of a Sneak Attack, or The Sound of a Surprise Attack (奇襲の音, Kishū no oto) is the 120th chapter of the Golden Kamuy manga.
Synopsis[]
At night, Sugimoto's group along with Asirpa's cousin heads out in order to keep a watch for the bandits that will attack soon. Ogata says that there is no point in getting ambushed and Sugimoto agrees, saying that they should just find out where they sleep, and suggests that they should attack the bandits in the middle of the day. Asirpa's cousin reveals that there is an inn and hot spring nearby that could give them some information about the bandits. Meanwhile, Asirpa is alerted to some clicking sounds in the forest.
Elswehere, Tanigaki, Inkarmat, and Cikapasi are surveying a fumarole as Tanigaki mispronounces an Ainu word with CIkapasi constantly correcting him. In the inn, Sugimoto is receiving a massage from an anma who comments that he's never felt a body like Sugimoto's. He commends Sugimoto on being able to survive with wounds like his but Sugimoto says that it would take a much bigger wound for his soul to leave his body. Asirpa says that the reason why Sugimoto has not died yet is because he has a duty left in this world to fulfill.
Once he had finished his massage, Sugimoto and the other males of his group decides to take a dip in the hot spring. Sugimoto reveals that the anma had told him that there used to be many hot spring inns back in the day, but were abandoned due to the inns losing guests from when the mines closed. Shiraishi comments that it sounds like a perfect spot for a bandit hideout and that they should search for the bandits once day breaks. However, Kiroranke says that the full moon is only a couple days away and that they should take this opportunity to relax and regain their energy.
As the anma prepares to leave, Asirpa asks if he will be okay despite him being blind. He assures her that he will be fine then proceeds to warn her about the sound of geta, which are made by the blind bandits. The anma says that the assumption that the sound is made by geta is wrong and that it was produced by the clicking of a tongue to create echolocation. Asirpa what it sounds like and the anma begins to click his tongue, drawing the bandits into the inn. Sugimoto's group then realize that they are surrounded by several armed blind bandits as Shiraishi recognizes Anji Toni with them. The bandits takes out their lantern as Sugimoto's group prepares to defend themselves in the dark.
