Synopsis

In the woods outside of Abashiri Prison, Nagakura hides as Ienaga is apprehended by 7th Division soldiers.

Meanwhile, Kiroranke carries Asirpa off the roof of the main gate as she demands that they go and rescue her father and Sugimoto. Tanigaki volunteers to retrieve them to repay Sugimoto for saving his life in Kushiro. He tells the others to wait for them by the boat they had prepared for escape.

Ogata continues shooting Wilk and Sugimoto, but Sugimoto is protected from fatal shots by Wilk’s body lying atop him. Tanigaki starts pulling them away from the shelter of a building, but Ogata manages to shoot him in the arm. While Ogata is ejecting the spent cartridge, smoke rolls in that obscures his view and allows Tanigaki to head back to the gate with Sugimoto and Wilk.

Outside the gate, Tanigaki finds Inkarmat lying on the ground with Kiroranke’s makiri stabbed into her body. Inkarmat tells Tanigaki that when Wilk was shot, she had seen Kiroranke signaling off to the distance. Their conversation is interrupted when Tsurumi approaches them with a group of 7th Division soldiers.

By the boat, Kiroranke tells the others how Inkarmat must have been the one who betrayed them to the 7th Division, and that they must go on without her. Shiraishi notices Kiroranke’s makiri is gone and registers the full meaning of his words. Ogata rejoins the group, who are unaware that he is the one who shot Wilk and Sugimoto. He tells them that Tanigaki was caught by the 7th Division, and Wilk and Sugimoto are dead. Asirpa faints from shock.

Sometime later, at a hospital near Abashiri, Sugimoto recovers from brain surgery performed by Ienaga. While Inkarmat’s condition remains more critical, she is able to tell Tanigaki and Tsurumi that Kiroranke and the others must be headed towards Karafuto. Sugimoto declares he will follow them and bring Asirpa back.
